Women in Solitude
This series shows women in solitude. My focus here are mostly wet techniques to underline a flow or to express movement of thought. Solitude is an important state and as Thoreau descirbes it, solitude is not loneliness or isolation, but rather self-communion and introspection. It has little to do with the physical proximity of others, since he says that a man can be lonely when surrounded by others if he does not feel real companionship with them. The search for truth should always start with contemplation of the individual self and nature. Therefore, my female figures are not lonely, but in solitude - sometimes undergoing transformations, sometimes being closer to themselves.

Mother Universe
When the world abandoned you and you feel alone, cold and empty, what is it that you wish for the most? It is connectivity, warmth and the certainty that you are being protected. This reminds us strongly of the duties of a mother, of course. However, when you grow older your mother might not be around or for some people, a true mother has actually never been around. So how can we satisfy all our needs, especially when we are in despair? We find them within us and in the universe, since we are a part of it and vice versa. Our own mother lies within us and is always there. She has nothing to do with biological relations, but she is transcendental, universal and gives you connectivity in the deepest, darkest, most desperate hours – you just have to go deep inside yourself and you will feel her, maybe even hear her.

Autumn Princess
When I crated this painting last year, I was deeply inspired by the colors and intensity of leaves in autumn. The Corona Crisis has been an isolating, often even depressing time, but in Nature I have always found beauty and strength. When I was closely looking at these vibrant leaves I felt like I want to become part of them, I want to plunge into their deep, strong warm colors. This urge and fascination gave me my inspiration for my “autumn princess” – a woman that merges with a leave, becomes part of it and is fully in connection with nature. Also, I intended to capture the strong and fresh colors of the leaves I adore so much.

Rollercoaster Girl
“Rollercoaster Girl” refers to the emotional state of the female figure in the center. Her emotions are wild, unclear, vivid and subconsciously there is a lot going on which is represented by the colors and shapes in the background. The structure of the artwork is fluid, wavy and underlines that everything is in movement. The figure herself wants to break free from all her emotions and skates to music. The colorful beams symbolize the music she receives and mentally inhales. She is portrayed naked to show freedom, but also her “naked” uncovered emotions that are within her, but also surrounding her and flow together with the music she is listening to.

Spirit Dancer
“Spirit Dancer” is a mixed-media artwork that celebrates autumn and the harvest festival. Every autumn I create an artwork to capture the colors of the leaves and to express the energy of those colors. The artwork has an ethnic touch because in most cultures, especially indigenous cultures, we find a harvest festival – celebrating life, health, goods that nature provides us with and our connection to nature. When winter approaches and the leaves begin to turn brown and the sky is grey, I want to keep that energy preserved that I captured right beforehand. The dancer expresses freedom, movement and positivity and emits energy.

Surrounding Thoughts
This painting shows a young woman whose facial expression exhibits the faintest hint of a smile. Her hair is arranged in the fashion of an afro reminiscent of the late 1960s and 70s, just like her earrings and clothes. The woman is lightly dressed, as she only wears a vest which is fashionably compounded by a piece of cloth around her neck. Surrounding her one can discern colour gradients that stretch from different shades of red to structures of white. The gradients remind one of the structure of a tree with its branches, and they also look like braids, roots, or the course of a river. The woman appears to be slightly reclined back. The background is a golden yellow at the bottom and a metallic blue at the top. The painting was inspired by both Klimt’s “Judith” and a 70s photograph of my mother.

Buoyant Lightness
celebrate myself, and sing myself,
And what I assume you shall assume,
For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.
I loafe and invite my soul,
I lean and loafe at my ease observing a spear of summer grass.
My tongue, every atom of my blood, form’d from this soil, this air,
Born here of parents born here from parents the same, and their parents the same,
I, now thirty-seven years old in perfect health begin,
Hoping to cease not till death.

Solitude
My wish is to stay always like this, living quietly in a corner of nature. - Monet

Plastic Princess
A layer of crisp, wavy and transparent plastic covers Lena Snow’s multi-technique piece. Plastic thus creates a barrier between us and the painting underneath, preventing the viewer from touching it directly. It is a protection meant to immortalise art from the dirty, imperfect human world. Plastic also represents eternity. Most of all, in Snow’s work, the material is everything artificial, a fabricated world that does not exist if not created. It is indeed a divide between what is human, limited, flawed, and the unattainable idea of eternal beauty and youth. Outside there are roughness and strives, inside smooth and cystallized perfection.Plastic is like the frosted glass of a pastry shop and we are kids glimpses through the dream without reaching it as the barrier prevents us forever from finding a way to the other side. It is a dream and as such it cannot exists in the realm of reality.
